Joeman's Games Special - The Illusion Series Part 2 - Land of Illusion & Legend of Illusion

The Illusion Series in the World of Games - Part 2

 Introduction

In the previous chapter, we relive the oldest games in the Illusion, the two versions of the acclaimed Castle of Illusion, both for  Mega and  Master.

In this one, we unearth two more games, one for Master System: Land of Illusion and the second also for Master System, the almost unknown Legend of illusion, which first came out on the Game Gear.

Year: 1992

In this jeime, also starring by the  famous mouse of Disgay ,  we help Mickey to recover a  stolen crystal by a ghost badass . The story is told during the game , with cutscenes , usually after bosses . Mickey is finding lost friends through stages, each can help as can,  offering  many times items that grant new abilities to Mickey .

The game is longer than Castle of Illusion , has a map and you can go back in stages to investigate passages that were previously impossible to reach or get .

Mickey is still the same , but your sprite had some changes , especially in the fall and when it is stopped . Another change is that Mickey can turn down when you're holding some object or box , something impossible in Castle of Illusion .

The stages continue thematic , but without the extravagance above. We still have stages in castles , in forests and in a toy factory , like Castle of Illusion . Joining to these , some legal stages as a pyramid and a garden were included . In all of them , a key must be found so that the exit door appears . Let's meet one by one now !

The stages, as I had already mentioned, are arranged in a map that Mickey must go looking for help on how to reach the ghost in his castle.

The first step is to talk to a girl (Daisy) who explains everything to Mickey. After that, we have the -cliché-stage-of-platform-games, the famous FOREST.

Stage 1- Forest.



Initially, it is full of spiders and webs, and snakes crawling everywhere. Right off the bat, we see a new element: a mini-tornado that makes Mickey spinning in the air with a very cool effect. The second part of the stage goes climbing a huge tree, which, in the end, we still have to throw an apple in the mouth of the snake ...

Stage 2 - Lake


Another cliché stage, but this stage more later hide secrets. The lake, in this first PAST, is almost empty. Mickey even digs deeply, facing rapids to cross the other side. Besides enemies, the mouse AIR needs to be controlled, because now he drowns ...

Stage 3 - Blacksmith Castle




Cool and different stage. Mickey is in a castle where  knives are forged, ie: it is hot, has very much  fire and twat enemies. Already at the beginning  a little fire appears to chasing Mickey across the stage until you reach the first door.

The second part consists of jumping over a lake of lava, with dragons flying around.



The chief, naturally, is another dragon, but is larger and more MOVABLE than that Dragon pf Castle of Illusion. KILLING the dragon, you save the Horace, who, in addition to give you a flute that has the same function as the START + SELECT in Super Mario World, reveals that the dragon was preventing the water went down and the lake was drying up because of that.

Stage 4 - Ghost Castle



This is something that could be more common in the game: stages with multiple exists that result in more paths around the map.

Well, this new castle is very crazy and sometimes everything goes dark and only lights up when Mickey takes a lantern. Ghosts,  flying pumpkins and other things roam the entire stage. At a certain part, it is necessary to build a bridge between spikes to aligning blocks, to another, the screen moves alone according to the buttons that Mickey steps. It is a long and very interesting stage.

His reward for destroying the funny ghost is a potion that causes  Mickey to shrink, essential to the next step, the so called-...

Stage 5 - The Tiny Cave



To use the item, just press down + button 2. Mickey is tiny and can now get into tight places of the scenario.

The  entire stage is a kind of path with worms, spiders, woodlice and other insects along the way. The stage has no boss, but hides secrets ...

Stage 6 - Rose Garden



  Gay stage, but very different from what was seen at the time: a  straight garden, with few challenges, like a sea of ​​carnivorous plants where Mickey must go on over a petal. Other than that, there's nothing else here, but it is a quite different and cool stage.



Stage 7 - Toy's Factory


Higher than the Castle of Illusion, this factory is full of doors and  boring enemies as fuck. We have a few cannons  shooting without stopping and a decline in  water guns. The stage extends up to a piano where the notes come alive in a way similar to piano of Castle of Illusion. Here we have a boss: a deck that is swirling in the scene, kinda boring to be won.

When KILL HER, Goofy emerges and releases way to the temple on top of the map, firing a cannon and destroying the stone. He still talks about a rope  so I can get to the Sand Castle.

Stage 8 - Temple



 The stage is long and one of the hardest, with blocks that come to life  and some guys on the walls that shoot. In the beginning, amid the ruins, some owls may take some work. The real problem is that these blocks LIVE, if you hit them, they stop and Mickey must use them for something, either break through or strike enemies.

The stage ends in a downhill where the Mickey's tail will be put to the test: spikes follow the mouse  everywhere, going end up in the  boss ARENA.

The stone ball is not difficult, just hit the blocks and use them in the boss when there's time. Winning, Mickey gets the rope, allowing climbing walls .

This is a good time for a walk through the old stages and use the rope to find some passages, and especially STARS.

Stage 9 - Mountain



 The stage of the mountain is simple and involves an initial climb, soon after, a small cave where the level rises and falls. Be guided by lanterns stuck in the ceiling of the stage, use the potion which decreases Mickey here is great. The third stage has more climbing, just get smart with vultures.


Stage 10 - Desert


The desert itself is not difficult, the only thing is the damn mfkr flying vulture which is trying to hit the poor mouse. In the middle of the stage there is a pyramid, the entrance to it is a small little door, behind a block. You should be runt to enter.

If you pass straight, you finish the stage, but the pyramid has a boss that hides the magic shoes that allow Migay walk over the clouds. Therefore it is required to enter the fucking pyramid.


Stage 10-1 - Pyramid



 The pyramid is kind of complicated if you're a first-time player in Land of Illusion. The beginning comes with everything with the famous CHASE-SCREEN, this time with spikes in corner, forcing the player to run for climb and deflect the  spikes along the way.

Then, a platform that is controlled as the Mickey looking direction  is can take some work. The key principle is surrounded with, but once you get down, it's easy to get it. Enjoy and collect another key and use it to catch a star to the left.


The boss is a snake wanders inside the egg. First, we must make the egg hit the walls of the place, it makes the  snake put the HEAD out: hitting the 2x, it hatches and part to fight.

She is burying himself in the sand without stopping: the aim now is to hit it with our ass every time the eyes of the damn snake appear. Right after she comes out and it's time for asses. Repeating this, she gives up and delivers the magic shoes for Mickey. 

Stage 11 - Princess's Castle


In the beginning the key is there, but the output is fenced and must go all the castle to find her . The beginning already shows that the castle reserve : poll of spikes , springs , some pumpkins to serve as a platform for Mickey and some ghosts .

The thing here is to stay tiny and use Mickey asses in some pumpkin that moves to the right: as Mickey is small, he not kill the pumpkin , being possible to go jumping  in  her  until the end of the hallway. . There,  two doors waiting you: the above leads Mickey to a hallway filled with FATAL acid purple where those platforms that rotate are the only method to go . At the end of this , a STAR awaits .

Going through the door below, the stage is easier , but there is  not some star . Third part of stage : a fucked  escalation, where we need to go using the small blocks to reach higher places . Then a bastard  corridor full of spikes, where the best thing to do is to stay tiny and pass the spikes who is tearing it up and down. In the end, the downhill to the exit door without boss to disturb .

The princess of this fuck  has a bad taste for CASTLES , but gave me some magic beans to plant on an island , near of the castle . But, before that, comes the ...


Stage 12 - Sand Castle


This castle is so LONG, BORING, CURSED, but with a MEMORABLE song . How Iyasu once said: "MUSIC IS SO GOOD THAT EXCEEDS THE CARTRIDGE ...". This fits easily here.
The beginning of stage is simple, with few jumps, some enemies and some places FULL of sand (do not say?). The second step is the water and involves buttons, mtfk fish, spikes everywhere and rats killed by shortness of breath, if you know what I mean.

It important do not to neglect of Mickey's air , as there are points in the middle of the path where he can stop to breathe. Leaving the lake, use your rope and climb the wall to get another star collection.


The boss is a crab that is swirling in the water, ie: be careful with the mouse air.

To hit him, wait for him to drop a 2 swirls and use the barrel on the FACE of him when he stops.

Again, the king Donald will be saved and will give you a boat to reach the island planted with the beanstalk.

Stage 13 - Beanstalk



The stage is short and simple: use swirls to reach the stairs and go up slowly, be careful with spiders and snakes along the way.

Stage 14 - Ghost Castle



This castle is a total mess with reversed parts , switches and buttons . It's easy to get lost here, so I will give a general explaination of stage for first-timers . We have 3 doors at the entrance : I always go at first because I find it easier .

The other involve  instant deaths in lakes of acid, while the first only asks for more flexibility in controlling , because we have a WALL that moves on the left side(CHASE-SCREEN ) that Mickey needs to be climbing and dodging the dangers that will come since from spikes, other enemies and walls that can crush him .

The thing now is kinda reversed: at the beginning , it is important to activate the button and go straight to the door , turn OTHER button , get the key , open the wall to get another key and fall into the water ( which was previously acid ) .

When you fall in the water , you will see that everything is reversed again ! Your goal : the door at the TOP of the right side . For this, use the key on the wall, follow it to the left , take a header on the button on the ceiling and come back and enter the door.

Now a  demon door  jumping out behind Mickey , take it to the end of the screen (right ) hit it and enter it . Step on the button and go to the left there.

The NORMAL door  ( without being invisible means ) is correct .

After that , only one pond to go down and we are facing with this GHOST , which is actually a witch.



Final Boss




Their attacks vary in three: First, fireballs, easily to be diverted. If witch stops, hit it one of our ass quickly before lifting her arms. Each hit makes she rotate again like ​​a tornado, going to stop randomly in the scene.

Second, she goes to the  ARENA celling and is running, when to stop, blocks will fall and one will serve for Mickey to get and hit the damned.

Third: she turns into a ball and jumping out.  After tiring of jumping, it's time to hit the witch, before she drop two thunders around herself. 3 hits and she turns into a story.


After finishing, do not press anything and wait for the credits. In the end a small screen appears showing how many stars could collect. There are 14 in total and I never managed to find all ...

Anyway, that was Land of Illusion, our second game of the special Illusion. The next I believe that few people know ...

::::: Legend of illusion - Master System / Game Gear :::::

Year: 1994

The story of this game is simple: the kingdom of the Pete was all messed up after a big black cloud appears over there. The only cure would be the king on a journey to find the Water of Life.
But the king is a chickenshit and saw in Mickey, now a simple castle janitor , the opportunity to save his kingdom: gave the crown to the mouse and proclaimed king right there, everything for him to turn around and go find the Water of Life. Mickey, not knowing what to do, set out to find answers ...


Okay, okay, the story is not so simple and not so cliche so. The game also has a little map, like the Land, but is much simpler. The Mickey's journey begins with the reign of Goofy and the adventure follows in increasingly different stages than we've seen in other games.

Mickey in this game is kinda different, a clothing to combine with the theme, a slight change in the design of sprite (is faster) and their attacks are summarized in throwing some small balls at enemies. No more asses! 

Mickey can still catch and throw blocks and some objects, and collecting items in chests, but this time they are quite different from CAKES or COINS: the majority give points and are different items, like diamonds, cookies, and so on. The mouse can still attack down and catch blocks during the jump.

Some items are  housed in inventory  next to the score and I have no idea for what to serve ...

:::::::::: STAGES ::::::::::

Stage 1 - Goofy's Kingdom


The stage is short and serves only to go learning and getting used to the new game mechanics. His only attacks are the balls and the only way to open the chests is throwing them somewhere, because the balls only hit enemies.

Mickey still climbs stairs, but now we have a new movement: he walks on clotheslines / vines, with a really nice moving. At the end of the stage, he celebrates as if he had a goal. A villager comes and says that the king Goofy is not there, went to visit the king Donald and never came back. Hmmm ...

The interesting thing comes now: comes a cutscene showing Pete getting a message: "whoever that bring the Water of Life, will become owner of this kingdom immediately." At that time he was mad with rage and said he would prevent Mickey anyway. The story is nice.


Stage 2 - Forest


Of course, we could not miss this stage in the game. The stage is quite short, being mostly on vines at night.

Here we can see new Mickey movements such as pulling blocks and push them too.

Stage 3 -  Donald's Duck Kingdom


In the  Donald's Duck Kingdom, a few things to be done, the main thing is to kill the boss and save the king Goofy, which is pretty easy. He hands him a map and a medallion to help him on his mission.

Mickey goes to a sphinx and she tells him that the problem of his reign is the Tree of Life who were going to shit.

The Sphinx also reveals that King Donald is on Lake of Dreams, our next stop.

Stage 4 - Lake of Dreams


It is one of the strangest stages. With rotating  rollers, aquatic parts  and full of buttons to push and pull, similar to the last castle of the Land of Illusion.

But the worst of this stage is that it has no end. Exactly what some are thinking, the game FREEZE here. I tested with DEGA, MEKA, MESS, GENS, all freeze in this stage. I tested 7 other downloaded  roms from different places, ALL freeze.

Mickey, entering a door there, appears lost in a part of the scene, completely FREEZE.

Unfortunately, this part of the special ends here. I hate when that happens, but at least be a warning to you guys that wanted to play the game.
